Hopper-Fed Progressive Cavity Pump
Progressive cavity pump configuration with a large hopper inlet for reviewed transfer of viscous, high-solids and poor-flowing media.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Use hopper feeding when the medium does not flow freely into a standard inlet.
G20-1 through G135-2 hopper-fed configurations add a large square hopper at the inlet of a G single-screw pump. The hopper can receive manual loading, conveyor feed or discharge from upstream equipment. The source product information describes this arrangement for forced feeding of viscous, concentrated, poor-flowing and solid-containing media.

TYPICAL MEDIA
Review flowability, solids and feeding conditions.
The source product information lists thick slurry, dewatered sludge, jam, sauces, dough, minced meat, chemical gel blocks, pulp, starch slurry, viscous ink and oil sludge. It also identifies media containing larger solids or fibres. Final selection depends on the actual viscosity, solids content, particle size, fibre length and feeding arrangement.
INFORMATION REQUIRED
- Medium, viscosity and solids content
- Maximum particle size and fibre length
- Required flow and discharge pressure
- Hopper size, inlet height and feed method
- Need for bridging control or agitation
KEY DESIGN POINTS
Large hopper inlet
The large hopper accepts manual, conveyor or upstream-equipment feed according to the selected configuration.
Forced feeding
The hopper arrangement supports review of media that do not freely enter a conventional inlet.
Low-shear transfer
The source describes continuous progressive-cavity transfer with low shear for applicable media.
Hopper configuration
Hopper volume is configured by model and can be reviewed against installation and feed conditions.

OPERATING NOTES
Maintain a continuous feed and prevent dry running.
The source guidance states that the hopper should have sufficient medium before starting and that the material level should be monitored during operation. A hopper inlet should be located for practical loading, with operating space above it. For high-concentration or bridging media, the source recommends review of bridging-control or agitation assistance. Clean the hopper and pump chamber after shutdown when required by the medium.
