ANSWER FIRST
Change speed only after confirming what the process actually needs.
When process flow changes, a variable-speed progressive cavity pump should not be adjusted by speed alone. First confirm the required flow, the actual pressure condition, the liquid and its viscosity, the suction arrangement and the installed control method. A G Variable-Speed Screw Pump is intended for duties requiring controlled flow, but final configuration and operating speed still depend on the real medium, capacity, pressure, materials and installation conditions.
Confirm what changed in the process duty
Start with the reason for the requested flow change. It may be a planned production adjustment, a change in tank level, a revised batch sequence or a symptom of restriction elsewhere in the system. The correct response differs in each case. A control setting that was suitable for one duty may not represent the required flow when the process condition changes.
Record the required flow and the discharge condition at the time of the change. Do not use a speed setting as a substitute for a duty review. If the actual process requirement is uncertain, confirm it before instructing an operator to increase or decrease speed.
Review the liquid before changing speed
Liquid properties can alter how the installed system responds to a speed change. Viscosity, temperature, solids or a change in composition may affect suction behaviour, pressure loss and the practical flow delivered to the process. A speed setting that worked with one medium may need a fresh review when the liquid changes.
Provide the liquid name, composition or concentration where relevant, operating temperature, viscosity information and solids description. These details also support review of wetted materials and the final configured pump.
Check the suction arrangement first
A progressive cavity pump needs a suitable suction condition for stable operation. Before increasing speed to recover flow, inspect the system information: liquid level, inlet-valve condition, line route, any restriction and whether the medium has become more difficult to draw into the pump. A speed increase cannot resolve an unsuitable inlet arrangement and may make the operating condition harder to control.
Do not allow a change in process demand to become a reason to operate without confirmed liquid supply. If the source condition is uncertain, stop and review the installation before continuing.
Consider pressure and the complete discharge route
Required flow and pressure are connected through the actual discharge route. A closed valve, restriction, changed downstream condition or longer pipe route can alter the pressure demand on the pump. If a system now needs more pressure than expected, changing speed alone may not give the desired result and can change the operating load on the complete assembly.
Confirm the pressure or total-head requirement at the actual operating point. Include downstream equipment, valves and any new process condition in the review rather than judging the pump from one gauge reading.
Review the control method and operating pattern
Variable-speed operation should match the required process control method. Confirm how the speed is commanded, who can adjust it and whether the process has a stable target flow. A manual setting may be appropriate for a defined duty; a changing process may require a reviewed control approach. Do not alter electrical or drive settings outside the applicable equipment and site procedures.
Before maintenance or adjustment work, stop the pump where required, isolate power and process lines, release residual pressure and follow the site safety procedure. The system must be safe before any inspection of piping or connected equipment.

Frequently asked questions
Can I increase progressive cavity pump speed whenever flow is low?
No. First confirm the source condition, liquid properties, discharge requirement and actual duty. Low delivered flow can have causes that a speed change will not correct.
What should be checked before reducing pump speed?
Confirm the minimum process flow requirement, liquid behaviour, pressure condition and whether the lower setting will still meet the intended duty.
Why can a flow setting change after the liquid changes?
Different liquid properties can alter suction behaviour and system resistance, so the process should be reviewed rather than relying on an earlier setting.
What information helps with a variable-speed screw-pump inquiry?
Provide the liquid, flow, pressure or head, temperature, viscosity, solids, suction arrangement, piping layout and intended control method.
