Start with the failure path, then choose the signal.
Magnetic drive pumps transfer torque through a coupling without a conventional shaft seal. That arrangement does not make dry operation harmless. The current Shangcheng magnetic-pump guidance notes that dry running can damage internal bearing and friction components. A useful protection scheme therefore detects the condition that removes liquid from the pump and stops or alarms the unit before damage develops.
Level protection suits an emptying source
A low-level switch, transmitter or interlock is usually the first review when a tank, sump or day vessel can run down. Its location matters: a level that remains above the outlet may still be too low once vortexing, pipe losses or a changing liquid surface are considered. Confirm the minimum level, switch delay, restart logic and whether the vessel is refilled automatically. A level device cannot protect a pump fed by a pressurized line that loses supply while the tank level remains normal.
Flow protection suits a lost or restricted feed
A flow switch or flow transmitter can identify loss of circulation, a closed suction valve, a blocked strainer or a supply interruption. It must be evaluated against normal startup and low-flow operation; otherwise it may trip during an expected transient. Position, cleanability, liquid properties and the process control sequence all affect whether a flow signal is dependable.
Power and temperature signals are supporting evidence
Motor power, current or torque may change when hydraulic load changes, but the pattern depends on the pump, drive and duty. Treat it as a reviewed diagnostic or interlock input, not as universal proof of dry operation. Temperature monitoring can help where a dry condition causes heat at the pump or process boundary, but sensor location and alarm delay require configuration review. Neither method replaces confirmation of the liquid source and suction arrangement.

Protection does not correct a poor duty
Dry-running protection is one part of a larger operating review. Confirm liquid name and concentration, temperature, required flow and head, viscosity, specific gravity, suction arrangement and every wetted component. The magnetic drive pump range is intended for clean compatible liquids; solids, crystallization and unusual chemistry require a separate review.
