PUMP SELECTION GUIDE

Start with the liquid.
Then define the duty.

A model number should be the result of the selection process—not the starting point. Use this guide to narrow the pump family before final configuration.

QUICK FAMILY COMPARISON

Match the main challenge to the pump principle.

FIVE SELECTION QUESTIONS

Information that prevents the wrong pump choice.

01

What is the liquid?

State the liquid name, concentration, solids and any abrasive or corrosive characteristics.

02

What flow is required?

Give the normal operating flow rather than only the maximum possible demand.

03

What pressure must be overcome?

Include elevation, pipe loss and required outlet pressure in the total head.

04

What are the physical conditions?

Temperature, viscosity, specific gravity and particle size can change the pump choice.

05

How will the pump be installed?

Confirm suction level, pit depth, available space, power supply and control requirements.

COMMON SELECTION MISTAKE

Do not choose by motor power alone.

The same motor power can be paired with different hydraulic designs and operating ranges. Flow, total head, liquid properties and installation conditions must be checked together before a model is confirmed.

FREQUENT QUESTIONS

Practical answers before an inquiry.

01

Can one pump handle every liquid?

No. Pump principle, wetted materials, speed and sealing arrangement must match the actual medium and duty.

02

Is maximum flow enough for selection?

No. The normal operating point, total head and system resistance are required to place the pump correctly on its performance range.

03

When is a magnetic pump preferred?

It is commonly reviewed for clean, corrosive or leakage-sensitive liquids when chemical compatibility is confirmed.

04

When should a sewage pump be used?

Use a wastewater-duty design when the liquid contains solids or must be collected from a pit. Particle size and installation method still need confirmation.

05

Can Shangcheng review a requested model?

Yes. Send the requested model together with the operating conditions so the duty can be checked before quotation.
