When should a QW submersible sewage pump be considered?

A QW Series submersible sewage pump operates directly in the liquid. It may deserve review for sewage pits, building drainage, municipal collection and industrial wastewater when a submerged installation fits the site. The installation review should include required flow, total dynamic head, wastewater condition, particle size, pit depth, installation method, cable length, operating liquid level, motor protection and automatic level control.

Submerged installation does not remove the need for maintenance planning. Confirm how the pump will be lifted, accessed and controlled, and establish whether the liquid level remains suitable throughout the operating cycle.

When should a ZW self-priming sewage pump be considered?

A ZW Series self-priming sewage pump may deserve review when the pump and motor need to remain accessible outside the wastewater and the installation can provide a suitable suction arrangement. The pump stays dry and accessible, but the suction line, priming condition, valves, maintenance space and motor/control arrangement become important parts of the duty.

Self-priming does not eliminate the need to verify actual suction lift, suction-pipe size, pipe length, air leakage, valves, strainers, liquid level and priming or startup conditions. It is not a promise that every suction route will establish flow, nor does it replace a practical inlet design.

Installation layout often decides the pump type first

If the pump can operate directly inside the wastewater pit, a QW submersible arrangement may deserve review. If the site requires the motor and pump to remain accessible outside the pit, offers dry maintenance access, or needs an above-liquid installation, a ZW self-priming arrangement may deserve review. This first decision is about the physical layout and maintenance method—not a claim that one series is always better.

How do solids change the decision?

Both series require a real wastewater review. Provide the solids type, maximum particle size, fibrous material if present, concentration or content, and sediment characteristics. Do not assume that a sewage pump can pass every solid or that an installation problem is solved simply by changing pump type. Solids and crystallization risk can affect the pump configuration, the pipe layout and the final selection review.

Flow and total head still determine the duty point

Installation method cannot replace hydraulic selection. Whether QW or ZW is being considered, establish required flow and total dynamic head. Do not select from motor power alone, pipe diameter alone or a maximum catalogue flow alone. For ZW, keep the suction condition separate from discharge head so the inlet route is assessed realistically.

Maintenance access and control requirements

For QW, review the lifting arrangement, cable, any automatic coupling where applicable, level control, motor protection and pit access. For ZW, review pump accessibility, suction-line condition, priming requirement, valves, maintenance space and motor/control arrangement.
