Speed is linked to every part of the sludge duty.
A progressive cavity pump transfers liquid through cavities formed by the rotor and stator. Its delivery is related to rotation, while actual operation is also shaped by viscosity, solids, abrasiveness, temperature, suction conditions and discharge pressure. The Shangcheng sludge-duty model guidance specifically calls for speed, passage size, stator material and solids characteristics to be reviewed together.
Higher speed can expose an inlet-filling problem
When speed rises, the pump needs the inlet to fill consistently. Thick sludge, a low source level, long suction pipe, small pipe diameter, sharp fittings, a partly closed valve or air entry can limit filling. The result may be fluctuating delivery, elevated load or an unstable process rather than the intended increase in output. Check the source, pipe route and material behavior before changing the drive setting again.
Wear and torque do not move independently
Abrasive solids can wear contacting and wetted components. Higher viscosity and solids can increase resistance and the torque demand seen by the drive. A speed change may alter heat, shear exposure and the time material remains in the pump, but it cannot make an unsuitable rotor, stator or seal compatible with the medium. Do not use overload trips as the normal operating control. Confirm motor, gearbox and speed-control arrangement against the revised duty.
Use this troubleshooting order
- Record the actual speed, flow, discharge pressure and motor load.
- Confirm liquid temperature, viscosity description, solids content, size and abrasiveness.
- Inspect the inlet for restrictions, air leakage, settling and inadequate pipe support.
- Confirm the stator elastomer and other wetted materials against the medium and temperature.
- Check whether discharge valves, blockage or changed pipework have increased pressure.
- Review safe pressure protection where the discharge can be blocked.
Do not operate a progressive cavity pump dry unless a special arrangement is supplied. If a flow change is needed regularly, review the G variable-speed screw-pump configuration with the actual capacity range rather than adjusting an unknown duty by trial.

Send liquid name, operating temperature, viscosity, solids and abrasiveness; minimum, normal and maximum required flow; normal and maximum discharge pressure; suction arrangement; hours of operation; and current drive details.
